Pipeline Support Specialist, Level 1-4 (Boise City)

POSITION DESCRIPTION & PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The incumbent must coordinate and complete pipeline construction and maintenance tasks Obtain and maintain DOT operational qualifications for working on pipelines Perform all phases of mobilizing, operating and maintaining heavy excavation equipment to include excavation frequently on loaded natural gas pipelines. Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to scoping and planning projects, scheduling, cost tracking, transportation of equipment as a CMV or CDL driver, excavation, removal of existing pipelines and installation of replacement pipelines, pipe coating, pressure testing, as well as supervision of sub-contract workers that perform work on Kinder Morgan company assets and facilities. Responsibilities:
Read and interpret engineering construction blueprints for projects Scope, estimate and schedule work and resources for projects Operate large truck and trailer hauling equipment required to transport heavy work equipment or project materials to job site Check and maintain pipeline locator equipment for line locates prior to excavation Locate and mark pipelines with line detection, pipeline locating equipment or probe rods using drawing and alignment sheets for reference Perform excavation spotter tasks and manage excavation of foreign pipeline crossings Perform excavations on loaded and unloaded pipelines Inspect coating and remove coating, surface preparation and the application of coating for buried pipe service Calibrate and maintain a holiday detector for coating application inspection Perform ultrasonic thickness examinations Perform pipeline hot tap installations on loaded pipelines Review pressure test plans per pipe and material specifications Perform pressure tests of pipelines and fabrications Assist Operations in launching, monitoring and receiving pipeline pigs Assist Operations in conducting internal pipeline cleaning or pigging operations utilizing internal pipe cleaning equipment Installation of Clock-Spring / Armor-Wrap for repair on loaded pipelines Disassemble meter tubes and perform internal meter tube cleaning Repair pig launcher and receivers, closures and install pig signals Repair shorted pipeline casings and install CP test points on pipelines Evacuate, purge and load pipelines; operate pipeline air-movers to evacuate gas lines during hot work operations Install full encirclement sleeves for anomaly repairs Install mainline valve settings and power gas pipe, valves and fittings Repair pig launcher and receivers, closures and install pig signals Repair shorted pipeline casings and install CP test points on pipelines Modify existing and install new gas measurement facilities
Position Requirements
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. EXPERINECE / SPECIFIC PIPELINE KNOWLEDGE:
Zero to 5 years of experience in all phases of pipeline construction, maintenance and repair to include equal experience in operating and maintaining heavy excavation equipment such as a hydrovac truck, backhoe, track hoe, side boom, dozer, and or maintainer. Job level is commensurate with experience and skill level of successful candidate. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be able to have and maintain a valid CDL driver license and retain a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers. COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND ABILIITIES:
Must have ability to read and interpret engineering construction blueprints for both pipeline and compressor station projects. Ability to read and interpret various company policies and procedures, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manual and blueprints. Individual must follow all safety, environmental and regulatory policies so tasks and assignments are completed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, ensuring proper handling and disposition of hazardous waste. Ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency or after-hours calls. Knowledge of both OSHA safety regulations and DOT pipeline regulations Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance procedures a plus Ability to operate heavy pipeline excavation equipment including large trucks Good communication skills - must be able to interface effectively with many internal and external customers, regulatory officials, company contacts, co-workers and 3rd party contractors Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office Word and Excel, company software if applicable), trainable to custom software applications Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals) Focused on internal and external customer service Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors and construction inspectors, with focused attention on details, work rules, and adherence to required project work schedules. This individual will be responsible for administrative tasks including ordering and receiving required replacement parts, completing personal timesheets and expense accounts, CMV log books, DOT DVIR s, and maintaining a company vehicle. The individual will normally be working outdoors, in a pipeline construction type of environment Must be available for callouts 24/7, except during company sponsored paid time off. Typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday, ten hours per day and will likely involve overtime This position requires extensive travel and overnight stays to support operation areas throughout the company and are work frequently away from the reporting location up to 70% of the time, working other than normal hours, working overtime, schedule changes and the ability to respond to call-outs. The successful candidate will be required to clear a DOT drug screen and a complete background check after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed and is subject to random DOT drug screening.
